GI-BAS and AGEMERA project participation in

the XIV Sofia Science Festival (May, 9-12, 2024)

AGEMERA project and the importance of the critical and strategic raw materials (CSRM) in our all-day life were presented at the Sofia Science Festival on 11-12.05.2024.  A lecture “Ancient mining, recent discoveries and future potential for critical and strategic raw materials in Bulgaria” was presented by Prof. Dr. Irena Peytcheva (in co-authorship with Rositsa Vassileva, Atanas Hikov, István Márton, Vasilios Melfos, Stoyan Georgiev, Desislav Ivanov, Marko Holma). The stand of the Geological Institute, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and AGEMERA was titled “The minerals: critical and strategic raw materials for clever people and technologies”. We presented there raw materials mainly from Bulgaria with a focus on the porphyry-copper systems and Assarel deposit (supported by the AGEMERA project partner Assarel-Medet JSC) but also other deposit types and localities were shown, e.g. bauxites from Jajce (another test site of AGEMERA). Ores from Assarel deposit were given to the children and many other interested visitors. The visitors were encouraged and some of them filled-up the AGEMERA interview. On a monitor behind the stand presentations concerning the CSRM and GIBAS were shown, among them the lecture prepared by Dr. Tony Hand “Geology of Rare Earth Elements and Battery Raw Materials in Europe”, and the presentation of Dr. Irena Peytcheva (sited above).
