Minutes of the Scientific Council Meetings

On Thursday, 16 July 2026, at 2.30 pm, a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held with the following agenda:

1. Extension of employment contracts with the Geological Institute:
1.1. Report by Prof. Z. Milakovska;
1.2. Report by Prof. D. Ivanova;
1.3. Report by Prof. A. Hikov;
2. Report by Prof. P. Ivanov regarding the forthcoming performance appraisal of researchers at the Geological Institute;
3. Report on the internal audit of the Research Department at the Institute;
4. Any other business:
4.1 Report by Assoc. Prof. P. Gerginov;
4.2 Proposal for the approval of the Institute’s Research Plan for 2026–2027.

On Thursday, 11 June 2026, at 2.30 pm, a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held with the following agenda:

1. Report by Prof. R. Vasileva and appointment of a Senior Lecturer in ‘Mineralogy and Crystallography’ for the ‘Mineralogy and Mineral Resources’ section
2. Appointment of a Scientific Selection Panel for the announced competition to appoint:
2.1. Associate Professor in the discipline of ‘Regional Geology’, for the needs of the ‘Geotectonics and Regional Geology’ Section.
2.2. Professor in the discipline of ‘Palaeontology and Stratigraphy’, for the needs of the ‘Geocollections Laboratory’ Section;
2.3. Professor, specialising in ‘Engineering Geology’, for the ‘Environmental Geotechnics’ section;
3. Report by Prof. I. Peicheva regarding the extension of her employment contract with the GI;
4. Report by Prof. D. Karastanev on the extension of the employment contract with the GI;
5. Report by the Director regarding the forthcoming regular appraisal of researchers at the GI;
6. Discussion and decision on new PhD programmes at the GI;
7. Discussion and decision on the announcement of a competition for the academic post of ‘Associate Professor’ in research area 4.4. Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Hydrogeology’;

From 7 May 2026 to 15 May 2026, an electronic voting procedure was held amongst the members of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the following items:
1. Withdrawal, with the right to defend her thesis, of Boika Mihaylova, a PhD student undertaking independent research in the doctoral programme ‘Hydrogeology’, and the appointment of the members of the examination board:
1.1. Withdrawal, with the right to defend her thesis, of the independent PhD candidate Boyka Mihaylova in scientific field 4.4 Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Hydrogeology’ (within the ‘Hydrogeology’ section);
1.2. Consideration of the composition of the academic jury for the award of the educational and scientific degree of ‘Doctor’ in scientific field 4.4 Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Hydrogeology’ (under the ‘Hydrogeology’ section);
2. Syllabus for the specialism examination in the ‘Hydrogeology’ doctoral programme.

From 14 April 2026 to 20 April 2026, an electronic voting procedure was held amongst the members of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the following item:
1. Consideration of the composition of the academic jury for the award of the academic and scientific degree of ‘Doctor’ to Rosen Rangelov Nankin in scientific field 4.4 Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Engineering Geology’ (within the ‘Geological Hazards and Risks’ section).

Minutes No. 7, 20 April 2026

From 30 March 2026 to 6 April 2026, an electronic voting procedure was held amongst the members of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the following items:
1. Consideration of proposals to announce the following competitions for academic posts in research area 4.4. Earth Sciences:
a. ‘Associate Professor’ (1 post) in the specialisation ‘Regional Geology’ (for the needs of the ‘Geotectonics and Regional Geology’ section);
b. ‘Professor’ (1 post) in the specialisation ‘Engineering Geology’ for the needs of the ‘Environmental Geotechnics’ section;
c. ‘Professor’ (1 post) in the specialisation ‘Palaeontology and Stratigraphy’ for the needs of the ‘Geocollections Laboratory’ section .
2. Consideration of the composition of the academic panel for the competition for the post of ‘Senior Lecturer’ in research area 4.4 Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Mineralogy and Crystallography’ (for the ‘Mineralogy and Mineral Resources’ section);
3. Review of the syllabus for the examination in the specialisation ‘Mineralogy and Crystallography’.
