Minutes of the Scientific Council Meetings

Today, 15 October 2026, Thursday, at 2.30 pm, a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held.

Twenty-one members of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute were present at the meeting. The meeting had a quorum. The announced agenda for the meeting included the following items:

1. Appointments to the academic posts of ‘associate professor’ and ‘professor’ following
competitive selection procedures;
1.1. Competition for the post of associate professor for the ‘Geotectonics and Regional
Geology’ department within professional field 4.4 Earth Sciences, specialisation
‘Regional Geology’. Sole candidate: Senior Assistant Professor Dr Ilian Kotsev;
1.2. Competition for the post of professor for the ‘Environmental Geotechnics’ department
within professional field 4.4 Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Engineering
Geology’. Sole candidate: Associate Professor Dr Dimitar Antonov;
1.3. Competition for the post of Professor for the ‘Geocollections Laboratory’ section
in professional field 4.4 Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Palaeontology
and Stratigraphy’. Sole candidate: Associate Professor Dr Lyubomir Metodiev;
2. Allocation of funds under K2 for 2026.
3. Any other business.
3.1. Proposal for the composition of a scientific jury for the appointment to the academic post
of ‘senior assistant’ for the needs of the ‘Geohazards’ department.

From 17 September 2026 to 24 September 2026, an electronic voting procedure was held amongst the members of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the following item:
1. Determination of the additional monthly remuneration for academic degrees at the Geological Institute for 2026.

From 28 July 2026 to 7 August 2026, an electronic voting procedure was held amongst the members
of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the following item:
1. Announcement of a competition to fill the academic post of Senior Assistant Professor in research area 4.4. Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Engineering Geology’ for the needs of the Department of Geological Hazards.

On Thursday, 16 July 2026, at 2.30 pm, a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held with the following agenda:

1. Extension of employment contracts with the Geological Institute:
1.1. Report by Prof. Z. Milakovska;
1.2. Report by Prof. D. Ivanova;
1.3. Report by Prof. A. Hikov;
2. Report by Prof. P. Ivanov regarding the forthcoming performance appraisal of researchers at the Geological Institute;
3. Report on the internal audit of the Research Department at the Institute;
4. Any other business:
4.1 Report by Assoc. Prof. P. Gerginov;
4.2 Proposal for the approval of the Institute’s Research Plan for 2026–2027.

Minutes No. 10 of 16 July 2026

On Thursday, 11 June 2026, at 2.30 pm, a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held with the following agenda:

1. Report by Prof. R. Vasileva and appointment of a Senior Lecturer in ‘Mineralogy and Crystallography’ for the ‘Mineralogy and Mineral Resources’ section
2. Appointment of a Scientific Selection Panel for the announced competition to appoint:
2.1. Associate Professor in the discipline of ‘Regional Geology’, for the needs of the ‘Geotectonics and Regional Geology’ Section.
2.2. Professor in the discipline of ‘Palaeontology and Stratigraphy’, for the needs of the ‘Geocollections Laboratory’ Section;
2.3. Professor, specialising in ‘Engineering Geology’, for the ‘Environmental Geotechnics’ section;
3. Report by Prof. I. Peicheva regarding the extension of her employment contract with the GI;
4. Report by Prof. D. Karastanev on the extension of the employment contract with the GI;
5. Report by the Director regarding the forthcoming regular appraisal of researchers at the GI;
6. Discussion and decision on new PhD programmes at the GI;
7. Discussion and decision on the announcement of a competition for the academic post of ‘Associate Professor’ in research area 4.4. Earth Sciences, specialisation ‘Hydrogeology’;
8. Review of the syllabus for the doctoral examination in the specialisation ‘Hydrogeology’;
9. Any other business.
