Pursuant to Order No. 81-I/07.07.2025 of the Institute’s Director, the Geological Institute is announcing a competition for additional financial incentives for its doctoral students. All full-time, part-time, project-based, and independent doctoral students at the Geological Institute are eligible to participate in the competition.

All full-time, part-time, project and independent doctoral students of the Geological Institute are eligible to participate in the competition.

The prize fund of the competition in 2026 is 2000 €, respectively:

First prize 1000 €
Second prize 650 €
Third prize 350 €

The funds provided to doctoral candidates may only be used to develop their scientific potential on the topic of the dissertation and are limited to the following three categories of expenses: analyses, field trips, and fees for participation in scientific forums.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

Motivation letter – significance of the research, innovative idea, new methods and analyses that must be implemented within the framework of the dissertation; new areas of research that require additional business trips, etc.
Financial plan for spending the funds
List of the participation in scientific projects and training schools, scientific forums in Bulgaria and abroad to date
List of publications of the candidate (if any)
The documents are submitted by September 15, 2026 to the office 205 on paper and electronically to the address rossiv@geology.bas.bg. After the deadline, the candidates present their proposal (within 15-20 minutes) at a previously announced open seminar before a commission for evaluation and ranking, determined by the Director.

The commission evaluates and ranks the candidates based on the submitted documents and their presentation at the seminar, taking into account the stage of preparation of the doctoral thesis, no later than 5 days after the seminar, and announces the results of the competition.
