Update of National program for prevention and mitigation of landslide risk on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, erosion and abrasion along Danube River Bank and Black Sea Coast 2022-2027

The program is a necessary continuation of a series of documents developed in previous years - legislation, regulations, strategies, programs for landslide risk mitigation. The need for periodic updating of the assessment of natural hazard processes on the territory of the country, leading to catastrophic conditions in a number of regions, is motivated by their high activity in recent years.
In recent years, many new landslides have triggered or intensified in the country. Till December 31, 2021, a total of 2,207 landslides were registered in the country, of which 829 are active. These are 359 new landslides for the past period, and in the last year 2021, 30 new landslides were registered. The tendency is for their number to grow, while at the same time the number of man-made activated landslides also grows. The existing map of the Landslides in Bulgaria in scale 1/500,000 will be updated and their classification by priorities in tabular form. In case of losses exceeding one billion levs per year from floods, erosion, landslides, etc., it is imperative to have an appropriate reaction to reduce such severe consequences.
The program is motivated by the need to take measures and actions aimed at preventing and reducing the degree of landslide danger; limiting and quickly eliminating the consequences of these processes; protection and preservation of the population, material resources and the environment from their impacts.
