Gurbino thrust, village of Gurbino |
The Gurbino thrust represents a south-vergent insertion
of basement rocks (Frolosh Formation: metadiabases, serpentinites) as a
5 - 8 m thin and more than 2 km long inlier into the basal part of the
Triassic Iskur Carbonate Group. This unique feature will be directly observed
in the road cuts. |

Panorama of the Skakavitsa shear zone and folds with the Skakavitsa waterfall |
The Skakavitsa shear zone is characterized by a
polydeformational sequence of thrusting, folding and normal faulting events
in the Triassic cover of the Vendian-Cambrian Frolosh Formation. The structure
with the Skakavitsa Waterfall (52 m) will be observed from the previous
locality. |

J/T unconformity, village of Bosnek |
The Middle Jurassic (Bajocian-Bathonian) Polaten
Formation (oolithic and biodetrital limestone) covers with parallel unconformity
and basal conglomerate the Norian Trun Formation (limestone and dolomite)
at the karst spring in the village of Bosnek. |

NE-vergent anticline, Kobilska reka |
At the confluence of the rivers, marine red beds of the
Komshtitsa Formation contain limestone interbeds with gastropods, echinids
and foraminifers. A NE-vergent anticline is related to NE-vergent Mid-Cretaceous
thrusting of the Morava over the Strouma superunit. |

Type section of Rayantsi Formation |
Near the village of Rayantsi, the Rayantsi Formation
(Aalenian - Oxfordian) consists of deep marine deposits (shales with radiolarites).
The section is folded into almost isoclinal folds with parallel bedding
and slaty cleavage. |

Core of Murvodol antiformal syncline |
At the southern entrance of the village of Murvodol,
the core of the Murvodol antiformal syncline exhibits Middle Triassic limestones
covered (overturned section) by uppermost Lower Triassic (marls, shales),
Lower Triassic continental red beds and Permian red beds. On top, the pre-Ordovician
basement (Strouma diorite formation) is thrusted NNE along the Skrino thrust. |

Section in the river Poletinski dol |
From top to bottom: Palaeozoic granites and schists
(Poletintsi thrust sheet); black shales of Middle Jurassic Momchil Formation,
white sandstone and red shales of Upper Triassic Komshtitsa Formation,
Upper Triassic limestone (Dragovishtitsa thrust sheet); thrust surface;
pre-Ordovician Lisets diorites (c. 540 Ma) |

Tight fold in Kostel Formation |
At the village of Sredorek, Upper Jurassic - Lower
Cretaceous flysch of the Kostel Formation is folded in East-vergent tight
folds related to the thrusting of the Morava over the Strouma superunit |

Vonska klippe of the Penkyovtsi thrust near the
Divlya village |
Devonian lydites, slates and wavy nodular limestones
from the Vonska klippe of the Penkyovtsi thrust (Morava superunit) are
thrust over Upper Jurassic flysch of Kostel Formation. Numerous internal
thrust surfaces form something similar to tectonic melange. On the upper
photograph are observed (from top to bottom; all with thrust contacts)
packets of lydites, wavy nodular limestones, lydites, limestones, boudinaged
granites (from layer-parallel thin body). On the lower photograph - detail
with lydite and limestone packets. |
*Skrino
thrust near Pastouh |
Near the village of Pastouh, the Strouma diorites
with later dolerite dykes (pre-Ordovician basement) are thrust over the
Permian Skrino Formation (red beds) |
