Geological map of Cherno more mine

Bourgas coal basin represents a vast tectonic depression superimposed on the Bourgas Upper Cretaceous synclinorium situated in the southeastern part of Bulgaria. The coal basin is composed of two main litho-stratigraphic units of Paleogene age - Ravnets and Mugris Formations. Ravnets formation consists of clays, clayey sands and sandstones. Nine coal layers of total thickness 1,5 - 2 meters are formed among them. Ravnets formation reaches about 160m thickness in the area of Cherno more mine. Mugris formation is deposited above it and is composed mainly of marls and clays. Its thickness amounts to about 80-100 m in the studied area.
